Tuesday 25th June - bike ***** – Around Felixstowe including breakfast at the Water Ski Jetty – sunny and hot.

Another hot day with not a cloud in the sky and light winds we decided to get up early to avoid the heat and bike to the water ski jetty by the River Deben for breakfast:) Leaving home just after 7 we headed down to the prom at the end of our road with the sea like a mill pool, it was fairly busy with dog walkers, a few swimmers and a stand up paddle boarder as we slowly made our way to The Fludyers before turning inland down to Marsh Lane and then didn’t see another person for a couple of hours, enjoying the peace and quiet with all the best that Suffolk has to offer! Out across the farmland to spook the deer again as it runs away again, then we spot 3 hares, always a bonus with loads of birds flitting about including sky larks and reed buntings. Then up onto the Deben path which we take slowly as it’s a bit bumpy in places with the Deben like a mirror and the tide low so lots of shimmering mud in the sunshine, the wildlife continues to be good with a hunting marsh harrier, with a curlew and oyster catchers in the mud! We reach the picnic benches at the water ski jetty and enjoy a relaxing breakfast before setting off again turning off up towards Falkenham eventually coming out at the church, across a wheat field to the lane before taking farm tracks and paths back to Trimley. Down Grimstonn Lane we do about half of the wooded path nice and shaded to before going past the Uniserve warehouse, past Morrisons and home. I even get to do my exercises in the back garden, a tad on the hot side, burning my feet o nmy yoga mat! Then after a quick lunch we visit an old friend before walking back through the town to the cliff top and home. One more really hot day before it cools a little and I might even get out foiling on Thurs/Fri, fingers crossed, it hasn’t been a great year for windsurfing:(
